Ravioli is a traditional Italian first course made with Fresh Egg-Filled Pasta. Square or round in shape, Ravioli can be filled with Meat, Fish, Cheese, or Vegetables.
What’s the perfect sauce for Homemade Ravioli? It’s impossible to answer this question because there isn’t a single answer – it usually depends on personal taste. The most famous Ravioli Sauces are definitely Tomato Sauce and Butter and Sage, but pairings also vary according to the type of Ravioli Filling.
Similar to Ravioli and also very popular are Tortelli, Tortellini, Agnolotti, and Casoncelli (regional variations of filled pasta typical of different Italian regions). Some of these regions traditionally also prepare a special version called Sweet Ravioli, which is typical during Carnival season.
Ravioli, however, isn’t necessarily an Italian culinary invention, or at least there’s no certainty about it. Ravioli-like dishes are found in many other countries, such as Germany, China, Japan, and Thailand. This is why we’ve also included some international recipes, such as Steamed Dumplings and Polish Pierogi.
