Once melted, let it cool completely. In a large bowl, break the eggs, add sugar and beat with an electric mixer until you obtain a light and fluffy mixture.Gradually sift in the flour, cocoa powder, and baking powder. Add a pinch of salt and slowly pour in the melted dark chocolate, gently folding to combine all ingredients. In a separate bowl, whip the heavy cream and add it to the chocolate mixture, gently folding from bottom to top with a spatula to maintain the air in the batter.Butter and flour a 9-inch (22 cm) springform pan. Pour in the batter, level the surface and bake in a preheated oven at 175°C (350°F) for about 40 minutes. Once done, remove from the oven and let it cool completely.Meanwhile, prepare the filling. Pour the heavy cream into a small saucepan and bring it to a gentle simmer. In the meantime, roughly chop the dark chocolate.Add the chocolate to the cream, stir until you obtain a smooth ganache, and let it cool completely.Once the cake has reached room temperature, cut it in half horizontally to obtain two layers. Fill the bottom layer with half of the chocolate ganache, place the other layer on top, and cover the upper surface with the remaining ganache. While the chocolate is slightly setting, sort the Smarties (candy-coated chocolate buttons) by color. When the chocolate is almost completely set, proceed with decorating the cake with the Smarties.Once the chocolate has completely set and the Smarties are firmly in place, your Confetti Chocolate Cake is ready to serve!
