Lovers of bold flavors simply won’t be able to resist the temptation of trying this Sausage and Pepper Pasta Bake recipe. Ideal not only as a main course but also as a one-dish meal, it is a real concentration of taste, made even better by the presence of Béchamel and Mozzarella, added at the end to gratinate the dish.

The beauty of Baked Pasta Recipes is that, just like Lasagna, they can be prepared a few hours in advance and stored in the refrigerator until ready to serve, but unlike lasagna, they are much quicker to prepare. Once the Sausage is browned in the pan to release all its flavor, we add the Peppers and cook them until tender. Mix the sauce with Béchamel and Pasta, and the dish is ready to be baked.

  1. To prepare the Baked Pasta with Bell Peppers and Italian Sausage, start by cooking the pasta in plenty of salted water according to package instructions.
  2. Meanwhile, remove the casing from the Italian sausage and break up the meat with your hands. Transfer it to a pan, without adding any fat, and brown it over high heat for a few minutes, until it releases some fat and turns golden brown.
  3. Transfer the sausage to a bowl, keeping the rendered fat in the pan, and add the bell peppers, washed, stemmed, and cut into small half-inch cubes. Season with salt and pepper and cook for about ten minutes, until they become tender.
  4. Add the peppers to the bowl with the sausage and set aside.
  5. Once the pasta is ready, drain it and combine it with the sausage and pepper mixture. Add the béchamel sauce, mix well, and transfer everything to an oven-safe baking dish.
  6. Spread the shredded pizza mozzarella (using a large-hole grater) over the surface and bake at 200°C (392°F) using the grill/broiler setting for 10 minutes.
  7. Serve the Baked Pasta with Bell Peppers and Italian Sausage hot, while the mozzarella is still stringy. Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!

Variations and Alternatives

To make the dish lighter, you can substitute the béchamel sauce with ricotta cheese: it will give the baked pasta the right creaminess while keeping the total calories under control.
