Teriyaki Salmon, often simply called Salmon Teriyaki, is a delicious main course from Japanese cuisine. In this dish, the Salmon is made even more special by the Teriyaki Sauce, a typical Japanese condiment made with Soy Sauce, Brown Sugar, and Mirin, a type of sweet Sake with lower alcohol content made from Rice Wine.

In this recipe, we’ll not only discover how to cook Teriyaki Salmon, but also what to serve it with, where to find Mirin (available in Asian grocery stores or international supermarket sections – can be substituted with a mixture of rice vinegar and sugar, or sweet white wine with a pinch of sugar), and how to substitute it with other ingredients. If you love Japanese cuisine, you absolutely must try making Pan-Seared Teriyaki Salmon at home!

Before discovering how to make Pan-Fried Salmon with Teriyaki Sauce, we recommend trying other Traditional Japanese Recipes such as Shrimp Tempura, Japanese Curry Rice, Melonpan, and Bao! And now, here’s the recipe for Teriyaki Salmon!

  1. To prepare the Teriyaki Salmon, start by removing the skin and bones from the salmon using fish tweezers.
  2. In a non-stick saucepan, pour the soy sauce and heat it together with the sugar, stirring until the sugar dissolves to obtain a smooth and homogeneous sauce.
  3. Turn off the heat and let it cool completely. Once at room temperature, add the Mirin (sweet Japanese rice wine) and stir to combine.
  4. Place the salmon fillets in a container, drizzle with the teriyaki sauce, cover with plastic wrap and let marinate for a couple of hours, turning the salmon occasionally to ensure even flavoring.
  5. After marinating, transfer the salmon to a non-stick pan with a drizzle of oil and cook for about 3 minutes. Add some of the marinade and cook for another minute. Then flip the salmon and cook for 4 more minutes.
  6. Once cooked, place the salmon on the serving plate, drizzle with the sauce, sprinkle with sesame seeds and serve your Teriyaki Salmon! Finally, remember to download our App with exclusive content and fewer ads!

Mirin can usually be found in well-stocked supermarkets, Asian grocery stores, or online. If you can’t find Mirin, you can substitute it with either 2 tablespoons of White Wine plus 2 teaspoons of Sugar, or 2 tablespoons of White Wine plus 1 teaspoon of Honey.
